Moyashi Shio (潮を燃やし, Shio Moyashi, lit. Burning Tide) is the cousin of Yakedo Shio and an unaffiliated ninja.
Moyashi was from the same village as his cousin Yakedo, a sleepy fishing town in the Land of Whirlpools. He was a good student in the local academy, not the best, but up there. As a child, he idolized his cousin, the seemingly perfect ninja, and trained day and night to be strong enough to earn his respect. Just as he graduated, his aunt and uncle's plot was uncovered and he witnessed Yakedo defeat all of the child ninjas, kill his parents, and run weeping out of the village. Moyashi followed him out of the village into the night. Despite not catching up to his cousin, he did not return to the village and continued on to the Land of Water. There, he took a private ninjutsu tutor in Kirigakure and honed his Water Release ninjutsu, in which his skills are much higher than his cousin.
On his travels, he once attacked a wandering rogue ninja, and succeeded in knocking off his hood to reveal his cousin, Yakedo Shio. The cousins immediately stopped fighting and traveled together for some time. However, Yakedo warned Moyashi, who still was not much higher than tokubetsu jōnin-level, that traveling with him would lead to those after his head to come for him, too. Unwilling to lead his cousin and last friend into danger, Yakedo began to teach his cousin some skills before, as a last act of family, taught him to open the Sea Gate, the Hiden technique of their clan before depositing him at the home of the Hawks.
Moyashi is a skilled shinobi, and a somewhat skilled infiltrator, though stated to not be on the level of his cousin. He was able to mute his chakra signature to civilian levels, and having compressed it, still maintain a Transformation Technique.
In the battle to capture the Two-Tails, Moyashi showed exceptional prowess, using Water Release ninjutsu in conjunction with his native Chakra Compression Technique to overcome Tailed Beast Skills. He often opted for the simpler solutions to attacks, rather than countering with chakra-wasting ninjutsu. But when Matatabi attacked with the ultimate Tailed Beast Skill, the Tailed Beast Ball, Moyashi took it upon himself to halt its progress to give his partner an opening, despite the immensity of the task.
